November 2021: Buena Vista Homework Club – a vital resource for families living in the Buena Vista Mobile Home Park in south Palo Alto – has reopened, thanks to a grant provided by the Palo Alto Community Fund (PACF).
During the past year and a half, the Buena Vista Homework Club’s classroom space was temporarily used as a “food closet” for residents of Buena Vista. The homework club was in need of supplies to re-open and expand their classroom to include new health and safety protocols, and PACF funds provided the support to purchase tables, math manipulatives, books, storage containers, iPads, a printer, and COVID-19 personal protective equipment for students and volunteers.
The funding PACF provided was made possible through a grant awarded by Santa Clara County and coordinated through the Office of Supervisor Joe Simitian.
“This grant has been instrumental in reopening the Homework Club, so I would like to again thank the County and PACF for making this possible. School and community support allow us to continue working with these students, and we are so grateful for your involvement!”
– Kayley Gould, Program Manager, Buena Vista Homework Club
Local Needs Continue
The global pandemic has greatly affected the education of all students. However, socioeconomically disadvantaged students have been disproportionately impacted. PACF is continuing to fundraise to provide support to a wide range of local nonprofits which do vital work in our community.
