Downtown Streets

In 2006, Palo Alto Community Fund provided the first grant award ever to be received by Downtown Streets Team, a moment that Executive Director Eileen Richardson recalls fondly:

“I ran the application in and before dropping it off gave the envelope a kiss for good luck.  When the request was approved, I felt like I was on top of the world, and when I received the check — the first ever — I fully experienced the support of the Palo Alto community.  Palo Alto Community Fund has always recognized DST’s passion and tenacity, and for that we are very grateful.”

PACF’s past two years of funding supported the purchase of a handicap transport van, which filled a great need. Downtown Streets Team has continued to thrive over the years due to the ongoing support of Palo Alto Community Fund. This valuable partnership is deeply appreciated.

PACF continues to support DST both directly and indirectly.  In 2016, DST received a grant that will provide basic needs stipends to DST team members which they earn in exchange for their volunteer hours at the Food Closet.  Pacific Arts League also received a grant to work with members of DST to help them express themselves through art.

“Last week I was able to use the van to take five clients out to do a housing application blitz.  It was hectic, but I was able to get A LOT done at once instead of working with one client at a time.  This week, I’m reaping the benefits of the blitz: We got some callbacks, at least one client secured a unit, and a few are on their way with promising leads.  I absolutely couldn’t have done that without the van.”
